Glade responds to my time as a Resident Artist at St George's Hospital, London. Whilst in residence I took much inspiration from the hospital gardens and thought a lot about care and resilience in relation to gardening and plants. Many of the activities and workshops I led were inspired by the natural world, and involved a whole range of processes and materials.
The shapes depicted in Glade are from mine and patient's drawings of medicinal plants found in the hospital gardens such as rosemary and dandelion, the colours are taken from the plants found there too. The patterned overlays are scans of pieces created during workshops in the hospital school and with staff, such as seed paper making and paper marbling.
